how to weld socket weld fittings?

Socket weld fittings can be welded using either a shielded metal arc welding (SMAW) process or gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW). When using SMAW, the welding needs to start by preheating the socket and parent material to the required temperature. Next, the filler rod should be inserted into the socket and melted along with the parent material. The weld should then be finished by cooling it down quickly while also applying adequate pressure to keep it properly attached. When using GTAW, a filler rod still needs to be inserted into the joint. However, this process requires a high level of precision since an electric arc is used instead of a torch flame. The heat from this arc will create an intense stream of air around the joint that helps bond the two materials together for a strong, durable finish. Proper technique and safety protocols must always be followed when welding socket weld fittings.
